February HCSC Update

This winter is proving to be the real deal. We have had a tremendous amount of snow since January's club member update. As promised we had a very eventful January. We had a great time on the January club ride at Rabbit Ears. We enjoyed over 4 feet of fresh snow on our way out to Buff Pass from the Ears. Probably the most epic snow for a club ride ever.

There was a strong turnout for this year's snowmobile Safety Seminar in Frisco. Thanks to Mike at Silverthorne Powersports for putting the event together and to the Summit County Search and Rescue for the presentations. On the 25th of January, we helped out with our annual Wounded Warriors event. This year White Mountain Tours hosted the group.

We rode in the morning around Leadville's Turquoise Lake, had lunch up above the White Mountain Headquarters outside of Leadville and then enjoyed zip line tours in the afternoon. Thanks to everyone that helped out with the soldiers and their families. Speaking of helping out: Thanks to our club members that volunteered at our last meeting to help out with tree pruning and trimming on our groomed trail system at Spring Creek. The trails were groomed earlier this week by Ross and are in fantastic shape. The Dillon Ranger District has installed the winter wilderness boundary signs up along Elliot Ridge. If you happen to be out there and see the signs leaning over or almost buried, please feel free to pull them up and straighten them out. The more snowmobilers we educate about the boundary, the less chance they have to shut down the rest of the area to snowmobiling.

February's events:

Club meeting on the 6th.
Monthly club ride on the 16th. This month's ride will be going to the Flattops. The plan is to meet at the Coffee Pot trailhead outside of Dotsero at 9am.

At the last club meeting, the members decided to postpone the overnight Wyoming ride in the Snowies until the 7th and 8th of March. The Medicine Bow Lodge still has availability for that weekend. Several members have already registered but there is room for several more. Please contact the Lodge at 1-800-409-5439 for more information. Most members are staying Friday and Saturday nights but a few are going Thursday thru Monday. There will be riding for all ages and abilities on this ride, bring the families. If the lodge does get booked there are a few other lodging options on the West side of the Snowies like The Place, 307-326-8372, Rendezvous, or the Ten Mile Inn 307-326-5928. In addition to the ride in Wyoming, we will also be holding our regular meeting March 11th and our regular monthly ride the weekend after the Wyoming ride. Details to be worked out at the regular club meeting this coming Tuesday, 6pm at Q4U in Frisco. Please come down and hear about everything we have going on.

Some general information on how the club information is sent out to all our members. We use the Colorado Snowmobile Association's web site to access our membership database. E-mails get sent out thru the CSA web site with our name on them. If you get the regular e-mails from CSA and hit the box to unsubscribe, unfortunately you get unsubscribed from our club e-mails as well. Please deal with their weekly e-mailed snow reports and make sure you get our regular correspondence.

Thank You,
Rich Holcroft,
President
