HCSC Fall Update

Hello Summit Snowmobilers,

Welcome back to Winter!

A quick reminder that our regular club meeting will be held the second Tuesday of each month, @ 6pm at Q4U in Frisco. If you look at the calendar that means November’s meeting will be on November 10th. We hope to see you there.

We’ve had a busy summer. We were able to complete our trail marking signage on the trails at Spring Creek as well as trim overhanging branches and fallen trees. Ross is planning to install some posts and snow poles on a few of the open spaces on the lower road but overall the trails are in great shape for grooming. Ross and I removed the covers off the snow cat and we have the mechanic scheduled to give the cat the once over in the next few weeks. It seems the snow has finally started falling, and the club is ready to groom.

You should have received the Snowscoop a few weeks ago announcing the Rocky Mountain Snowmobile Expo. I participated in the snowmobile swap and was able to sell one sled and a dirt bike. I saw quite a few club members down there and went to the Colorado Snowmobile Association quarterly board meeting on Sunday.

CSA announced that their annual convention and ride will be hosted by the Buena Vista and Salida clubs this year from January 22-24th. They will be riding Cottonwood, St. Elmo and Marshall Pass areas. If you haven’t ridden in the Collegiate Peaks area, you should definitely check it out. We usually get a few of our members attending the convention and it has always been a great time. The convention and lodging will be at the Mt Princeton Hot Springs Resort, so you can soak your tired bones after a full day of riding.

Everything seems to be coming in line for our Snowmobile Season Kick-Off Party and fundraiser, Saturday November 21st at the Backcountry Brewery in Frisco. We will once again be hosting the Summit County premier of the latest Boondockers Movie, Boondockers 12. Dan Gardiner was nice enough to hook us up with copies of the new movie and all kinds of Boondockers gear. Matt Entz with Mountain Skillz said he’ll be there for sure.

We need additional items and donations to give away at the event. We will be raffling off a 2 day snowmobile class with Matt Entz as one of our grand prizes, but we always need more stuff! It seems our kick-off party always brings a big dump of snow so let’s kick off the season in a big way once again!

Speaking of raffles and give a ways, CSA is once again doing their snowmobile raffle over the next 5 weeks. This year the first prize is a 2016 Arctic Cat M8000 Sno-Pro, Valued at $12,999. Second prize is a ZR 120 kids sled. Raffle tickets are $5.00, and we have 400 tickets to distribute to members to sell. The best part is for every ticket our club sells, the club receives $2.40 to help support the grooming program. This is a great event and a great fundraiser for the club, if you’d like tickets to sell, let me know or stop by tomorrow’s meeting. We will also have plenty of tickets to sell at the Kick-Off party.

One of our business members, Alpine Motor Sports in Kremmling is a participating Arctic Cat dealer for the CSA raffle. Erik will once again assign the portion of all the tickets sold at his shop to our club. Alpine Motor Sports will also be having an open house and party November 14th. For more information check out http://www.alpinemotorsportsinc.com

New this year, we will be coordinating an intro to Avalanche Awareness class with Tyler’s Backcountry Awareness instructor Brian Lundstedt. http://www.backcountryawareness.org

This will be a 2 day course, one evening classroom session and one full day on the snow at Spring Creek. It will be quite a bit more hands on than any avalanche class we have hosted in the past. Class size is limited to 10-15 people and we will schedule as many classes as it takes to get interested members taken care of. Brian and I will watch the snowpack, hopefully we will get enough snow to have a class or two in December, the rest will be scheduled in February. I’ll keep you posted on their schedule.

We are planning a few overnight rides for this year. We were originally talking about returning to Hahns Peak Lodge in February but we will have to watch snowfall, we may want to reserve some room in South Fork in case the South gets hammered this winter. We can talk about the ride locations at our November Meeting.

You may have seen an e-mail that your CSA and club memberships are expiring, memberships run on a calendar year and your 2015 membership will expire at the end of December. Please don’t forget to renew in order to keep receiving our club communications. Memberships can be renewed online at www.snowmobilecolo.com or in person at any club meeting or event.

Hope to see you all November 10th, thanks!

Rich Holcroft,

President
